Grudziądz is the fourth largest city in the Kuyavian – Pomeranian Voivodship, and the fortieth in Poland. There are almost 100,000 residents and within a radius of influence of the city there are around 250,000 people.

Grudziądz spreads in Pomerania, on the right, picturesque bank of the Vistula. The town's location midway between the sea ports in the north and the large economic centers, such as Toruń and Bydgoszcz, as well as the shortest route, connecting western Poland with Warmia and Mazury has an impact on the attractiveness of the city.
The surface area of Grudziadz is 58.74 thousand. m2. The city hosts District Office (County Starosty), and as a city performs the role of the county borough.
The city's history dates back to 1065, when we find the first written notice about Grudziadz. Grudziadz received city rights in 1291.
About 5 miles west of the city runs the international road E 75 which connects the north with south of Poland. Two national roads runs through the city: No. 16 connecting Slubice and Świecko with Warmia and Mazury and further with Kaliningrad and the countries located by the Baltic Sea, and road No 55 (Torun - Stolno - Grudziadz - Kwidzyn – Nowy Dwór Gdański) and the provincial road 536 (Grudziadz - Rypin - Sierpc – Warsaw). A1 motorway plays an important role in the development of the city: it connects the north and south of Poland. Within the distance of 20 km from the city, there are 4 nodes (junctions) along A1 motorway: "Warlubie", "Nowe Marzy", "Grudziądz" and "Lisewo".
In Grudziądz at the moment there are 379 roads with a total length of 220 km, 23 bridges, 9 footbridges and 3 viaducts with a total length of more than half a kilometer. The Bronisław Malinowski bridge on the Vistula River in Grudziadz is the longest road-rail bridge in Poland. The bridge has 11 spans, and it's 1098 meters long.
Two non-electrified railway lines run through the city.
